Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF) returns this March for its 20th anniversary with its most ambitious edition yet. From Friday 20 to Sunday 22 March 2026, the festival brings over a hundred fi lms, conversations and free events to the Showroom Cinema with stories of endurance, sustainability and connection with the natural world.

Sheffield’s leading independent cinema has appointed Johnathan Ilott as its new Head of Programming.

Showroom Cinema in Sheffield has launched its first Christmas Angel scheme, inviting audiences to donate the cost of a festive cinema experience.

The independent cinema, which has served Sheffield audiences for 30 years, competes against venues nationwide for a nomination to the inaugural award. 

The Yorkshire consortium for the BFI Short Course Programme has been awarded £91,500 from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) fund to support the next generation of filmmakers across the region.

Highlights include 90 years of Sheffield on film and the world premiere of a new Threads documentary.

Returning with local favourites, rare 35mm screenings, cult anniversaries and guest filmmaker Q&As, this year’s SFF promises a cinematic summer for the steel city and beyond.

Showroom Cinema is projected to save £48,500 annually following the installation of one of the largest solar panel arrays in Sheffield City Centre.

To celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month, Showroom Cinema, Sheffield, presents queer cult classics and platforms prize-winning new voices.
