Support Us

Showroom Cinema has offered independent films to Sheffield audiences for over three decades. That’s something we’re immensely proud of.

As Sheffield’s original and leading independent cinema, it’s our duty to deliver a diverse programme of films that entertain, educate and inspire.

But the Showroom is more than just a place to see films. Every year, your generosity helps us to:

  • Create welcoming, inclusive spaces where people feel they belong.

  • Bring international, independent, and world cinema to Sheffield audiences.

  • Offer affordable screenings for families, older audiences, and people with additional needs.

  • Provide training and opportunities for young filmmakers from working class and underrepresented backgrounds.

This is vital, if costly, work. As part of registered charity Sheffield Media and Exhibition Centre (no. 1002020), Showroom Cinema relies on grants and donations for over 50% of its revenue.

We need your support to enable us to continue to offer a wide range of opportunities for this community. Every ticket, coffee, and donation helps us make a difference.

Serving our community

We believe in the power of cinema to connect people.

  • Baby Kino welcomes parents and carers of babies under one, offering relaxed screenings where they can enjoy film and company in a supportive environment.

  • Relaxed and dementia friendly screenings give audiences a calmer, more accessible experience.

  • Cine26, our free membership for under 26s, helps young people experience independent film at an affordable price.

  • Black History Month celebrates Black filmmakers and stories that deserve to be seen and shared.

  • Our ongoing foreign and independent film seasons introduce audiences to new cultures, ideas, and perspectives from around the world.

Your support keeps these vital community experiences alive.

Film Education and Opportunity

Every young person deserves the chance to see themselves, and their stories, on screen.

Through our Schools and Colleges programme, we welcome thousands of students each year for curriculum linked screenings, workshops, and creative projects. We introduce film as a tool for learning, understanding, and self expression.

We are also proud to be a BFI Film School, supporting aspiring filmmakers from working class and underrepresented backgrounds. Our students receive hands on training, mentoring, and industry insight that can change their lives.

Championing women in film

We are proud to host FFStival Sheffield, founded by Melanie Gourlay. FFS is Sheffield’s first female led film festival, celebrating women and non-binary filmmakers, writers, and storytellers.

Through FFS and year round programming, we champion women’s voices both on and off screen, from emerging talent to established directors, showcasing creativity, diversity, and courage in storytelling.

“Sheffield’s first female led film festival is committed to creating a robust future for cinema. The Showroom is a safe and collaborative space where FFS directly champions underrepresented filmmakers, providing the platform for them to showcase their talent and equip them to become the industry leaders of tomorrow.”

- Melanie Gourlay, Founder of FFS

Supporting Showroom means supporting a more equal, representative film industry.
