Showroom Cinema in Sheffield has launched its first Christmas Angel scheme, inviting audiences to donate the cost of a festive cinema experience so local families and community members can attend a Christmas film screening.
December is the time to indulge in nostalgic classics with the family, share community with older people, and introduce children to heartwarming festive favourites. Showroom’s Christmas Angels scheme will enable more people to enjoy shared cultural experiences during the festive period.
Donations will fund a cinema ticket and festive treats for individuals, families, schools and community groups so those who might otherwise miss out can enjoy a festive cinema visit.
People will be welcomed to family favourite Christmas screenings at Showroom like Home Alone and The Muppet Christmas Carol, alongside classic stories It’s a Wonderful Life, and The Shop Around the Corner.
Tickets will be distributed via Showroom’s partner network, including local schools and community groups.
Charities, schools and community groups based in Sheffield that would like to take part, can also register their interest by emailing: community@srws.org.uk.
Individuals and businesses can donate any amount, and every penny will make a difference but £40 would fund a family trip, £100 a community outing, and £300 to gives a cinema experience to an entire classroom.
Donations can be made online or at the Box Office. Further information is available at: https://showroomcinema.org.uk/christmas-angels
The fundraiser runs until Wednesday 24 December. Any additional funds raised will support Showroom’s year-round charitable activity and access programmes.
In 2025 Showroom delivered over 110 accessible screenings. These included captioned (subtitled) screenings each Monday, relaxed Family Time screenings on Saturdays, and monthly dementia-friendly screenings delivered in association with The Alzheimer’s Society.
Victoria Firth, Chief Executive of Showroom Work Station, says: “It’s such a delight to connect over our favourite classic films each year. Showroom’s Christmas Angels Appeal gives people an easy way to gift that experience to someone who may otherwise miss out. A ticket can be a small gift, but the feeling of being welcomed in, as part of something bigger, can last throughout the winter.”
Mums in Need, who receive free tickets through Showroom’s community partnership work, say the cinema’s offer makes a big difference for families.
A Mums in Need case worker, says: “The Showroom has been a haven for our community. By providing free family film screenings, they’ve created a safe space where our mums can unwind, connect with their children, and experience the magic of cinema together.”
