Sheffield Homecoming for Composer Jim Ghedi as Showroom Cinema Hosts Special Screening of A24's The Death of Robin Hood

Thursday 3 September 2026, 7.30pm Showroom Cinema, Sheffield.

Showroom Cinema and Sensoria are delighted to announce a special preview screening of A24's The Death of Robin Hood, the dark reimagining of the classic legend from director Michael Sarnoski (Pig), ahead of its UK cinema release.

The film stars Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett and Noah Jupe. Grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, Robin Hood (Jackman) finds himself gravely injured after a battle he thought would be his last. In the hands of a mysterious woman, he is offered a chance at salvation.

The screening will be introduced by Sheffield composer and musician Jim Ghedi, who wrote the film's original score, and followed by a special live performance, bringing the legend of Robin Hood home to South Yorkshire soil.

Ghedi crafts a new folk canon with his epic The Death of Robin Hood Original Soundtrack. Droning harmoniums and hurdy-gurdy lay a thick bed of sound for soaring fiddle melodies, with Ghedi's signature wailing vocal occasionally floating on top in a wholly unique approach to film score. Standout track "Twa Corbies" feels like both a call to battle and a painful lament. Ghedi's fresh approach to traditional folk music made him the ideal pairing for Sarnoski's dark retelling.

The event also marks a personal homecoming: Ghedi is a former member of staff at the Showroom.

Hosted in partnership with Sensoria, this screening and performance is the first of two events celebrating Ghedi’s work on the score. Audiences can attend an in conversation talk with Ghedi about the process of composing the soundtrack at Work Station as part of SensoriaPro on 23 October 2026 (early bird tickets on sale now from £28).

Jim Ghedi said:

"I'm proper buzzed about this Sheffield premiere, to showcase the score I composed for Michael Sarnoski's 'The Death of Robin Hood' film in my hometown to friends and family and to have a Sheffield send off for it at The Showroom cinema — a place that I worked at as a member of staff for years — this event is a real homecoming and it truly does mean a lot to me!

The reclaiming of the legend back on South Yorkshire soil too! At the event I will be discussing the process of composing the score and performing a couple songs at the end too! Let's make it a good'un Sheff!"

Johnathan Ilott, Head of Programming for Showroom Cinema said:

"This is exactly the kind of event the Showroom exists for. Michael Sarnoski's The Death of Robin Hood is a bold and haunting take on a legend that belongs to this part of the world, and Jim's extraordinary score sits right at the heart of it. It's a real pleasure to welcome him back to a building he knows well from his years working here, and to share the film with a hometown audience alongside our friends at Sensoria. It promises to be a very special night."

Tickets are £12 (£10 concession), with £6 tickets for people with Showroom's free CINE26 membership, available to those aged 16–26. Tickets on sale from midday, Thursday 23 July 2026 at: https://showroomcinema.org.uk/film/the-death-of-robin-hood-preview-jim-ghedi-live-performance
