Environmental & Sustainability Policy

Committed to a greener future through film, culture and community

At Showroom Work Station, we recognise our responsibility to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future. As a cultural hub and charity, we are committed to operating in a way that protects the planet and inspires action through both our operations and our programming.

This policy outlines how we integrate sustainability into our daily practices, creative output, and public engagement.

Green Initiatives

We’re taking active steps to reduce our carbon footprint and energy usage across our building and cinema operations:

  • Solar Power at Showroom Work Station: In 2024, we began a major sustainability milestone with the installation of over 100 solar panels on our roof. This project, supported by Arts Council England and delivered in partnership with Sheffield City Council, will significantly reduce our energy consumption and carbon emissions — helping power both the cinema and Work Station with clean, renewable energy.
  • Energy Efficiency: Alongside solar power, we are continually reviewing our building infrastructure to increase energy efficiency, including LED lighting upgrades and improved heating and ventilation systems.
  • Waste Reduction: We prioritise waste minimisation by reducing single-use items, using eco-friendly alternatives where possible, and encouraging reuse and recycling throughout the building.
  • Sustainable Sourcing: We work with suppliers who share our environmental values and aim to stock ethically sourced, low-impact products in our café bar and events.
