Sheffield’s leading independent cinema, has appointed Johnathan Ilott as its new Head of Programming.
In the role, Johnathan will oversee a diverse, curated programme that brings the best of global and independent cinema to the city; along with supporting the many, in-house and partner-led film festivals that make Showroom a cornerstone of Sheffield’s strong and vibrant cultural sector.
As part of the programming team, Johnathan will also support talent and skills development activity with the BFI (British Film Institute) and other partners, helping young people break into the film industry through regular training initiatives.
Johnathan is an accomplished arts programmer and curator with over 15 years’ experience working in the UK’s independent cinema and cultural sector. He joins Showroom from The Dukes, a Lancaster-based National Portfolio Organisation, where he was Head of Cinema and managed the venue’s independent film programme.
Alongside his role at The Dukes, Johnathan has had several programming and freelance roles, including for Film Hub North and Bolton Octagon and he has taught as an Associate Lecturer in Film Studies at Lancaster University.
