Families at Showroom this Week: Foxes, Borrowers and Spooky Skeleton

Family Time gets wild on Saturday 17 October at 11am with Fantastic Mr. Fox, Wes Anderson’s adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic. An urbane fox can’t resist returning to his farm-raiding ways, and must then help his community survive the farmers’ retaliation. Storyteller Beth from Magic Box Storytelling leads a musical, interactive telling of the English folktale “Foxy”, full of magic, cheeky songs and funny jokes, and after the film little ones can decorate their own fox mask.

Family Time runs every Saturday at 11am with films for ages 5+, in a relaxed setting with softened lighting and Hard of Hearing subtitles where possible. All tickets are £4.99, little ones can grab a drink and popcorn combo for £4.50, and grown-ups get 10% off café bar food with their ticket.

From Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October we’re also showing Arrietty, from the creators of Spirited Away and Ponyo. This gorgeous adaptation of The Borrowers follows brave Arrietty, one of the tiny people living beneath the floorboards. When a human boy discovers her, it blossoms into a heartwarming friendship. The dubbed version features Saoirse Ronan, Tom Holland, Mark Strong and Olivia Colman, with subtitled screenings too.

On Monday 19 October at 11.15am, Toddler Kino gets into the Halloween spirit with a Silly Symphonies Spooky Special: three classic Disney cartoons from the 1920s and 30s. The Old Mill won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short, The Big Bad Wolf retells Little Red Riding Hood in song, and The Skeleton Dance, the first Silly Symphony, was created by Walt Disney himself. The cartoons are rated U, but we’ve flagged the screening PG for some mild peril and a few friendly but spooky skeletons. Pitched at 1–4s, Toddler Kino gently introduces the youngest to the big screen, with all tickets just £3.99.

Baby Kino follows at 12.15pm with Extra Geography (15), exclusively for parents or guardians accompanying babies under one year old. At an English girls’ boarding school, two teenage best friends navigate friendship, boys and growing up, and fall in love while working on a school project. Baby Kino welcomes parents and new babies every Monday, with pram parking, a free hot drink and 10% off café bar food.
