A 2021 expedition to be the first to summit K2 in winter left five dead, exposing the fault lines of modern mountaineering.

In The Last First: Winter K2, Emmy-winning director Amir Bar-Lev follows Icelandic mountaineer John Snorri Sigurjónsson and Pakistani father and son team Ali and Sajid Sadpara as they set out to make history on the world's most dangerous mountain at its cruelest. But the trio soon find themselves sharing the treacherous ascent with influencer climbers, commercial expedition clients and a Nepalese celebrity mountaineer and his team of Sherpas. Taken to the icy heights and unpredictable weather of K2, what unfolds is a surprising and layered story of strategy and determination, class and caste, money and power, all under life and death circumstances.
