This Christmas, join us for some spooky seasonal goings-on with a double bill of two classic BBC A Ghost Story for Christmas episodes. Broadcast on Christmas Eve over a span of 50 years, the short films have become a British televisual institution.

Presented by The Ghost Story Book Club Podcast’s Adam Z Robinson, the screenings of Whistle and I’ll Come to You and A Warning to the Curious will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Adam, writer Jeremy Dyson and Sheffield Hallam University’s Dr Diane Rodgers.

BBC A Ghost Story: Double Bill Programme

Whistle and I'll Come to You

An eccentric academic finds his midwinter break on the Norfolk coastline interrupted when the discovery of an artefact on a beach unleashes vengeful supernatural forces.

Jonathan Miller’s chilling and spare MR James adaptation has become an iconic television moment, and its success with audiences directly inspired Lawrence Gordon Clark to create the A Ghost Story for Christmas Anthology series.

A Warning to the Curious

The Second offering in the anthology and another MR James adaptation, A Warning to the Curious follows an archaeologist whose curiosity is aroused by the tale of three crowns buried on the Norfolk coast. When he finds the last of these crowns, he also unwittingly wakes the spectre of their now-dead guardian, who comes after the archaeologist seeking revenge.
