Our fleet has been almost completely destroyed. We urgently need new spacecraft, but our budget has been cut. The only materials left are cardboard, tape and whatever else you can get your hands on.

Build a replacement, scan it into the game and climb aboard as its live pilot. If your engineering is good enough, you might just save the day.
