NAZA

CTBA

On rooftops across Tel Aviv, at night and away from official channels, 24 Israeli soldiers and intelligence officers talk. Anonymised and speaking frankly, they describe the systems they helped design and operate to select targets in Gaza, including the AI and surveillance technology behind them.

The title comes from the Hebrew military term Nezek Agavi, meaning “collateral damage”. In the film, the interviewees explain how each potential target was given a NAZA value: the number of civilian deaths considered acceptable in a strike.

The film is made up entirely of these interviews, set against the Tel Aviv skyline at night. It’s quiet, restrained and deeply unsettling.

The new documentary from Israeli investigative journalists Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, the Oscar-winning team behind No Other Land, NAZA premiered at Venice Film Festival to a standing ovation and has since screened at major festivals internationally.

Content advice: Contains little graphic imagery but frank and upsetting discussion of the killing of civilians, including children.

Cinema Palestino special screening: We're joined by Cinema Palestino for a special screening on Wednesday 21 October featuring a pop up stall with information of how to get involved with the Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
