One year after Gamera’s battle with the Gyaos, a meteor crash lands on Earth unleashing hundreds of terrifying insect-like ‘Legion’ creatures that threaten to overwhelm the planet. When the military’s efforts fail to control the situation, Gamera reappears to deal with the ever-evolving monsters. However, the battle may result in Gamera losing his bond with both Asagi and humanity.
Gamera 2 – Attack of Legion follows the first film in exploring the more spiritual aspects of the genre, challenging much of the established Gamera mythology. Across the Heisei trilogy, the titular creature’s monstrous nature is seen in an increasingly negative light, especially by the children to whom it has historically been a guardian. Though Gamera appears time again to save humanity from ancient and extraterrestrial threats, its ambivalence to destruction and increasingly violent means bring into questions the creature’s true motivation.
Last year, Kaijuly’s screening of Gamera – The Guardian of the Universe proved immensely popular, so we are excited to announce that this year we are rounding out the remainder of the Heisei trilogy! Don’t forget to also join us on Sunday the 5th of July for Gamera 3 - Revenge of Iris for the guardian turtle’s full explosive arc!
