Film Studies: Days of Being Wild

12A

Set in 1960s Hong Kong, Days of Being Wild follows Yuddy, a restless young man whose troubled relationships and search for his birth mother leave a trail of unfulfilled desires. Featuring an extraordinary ensemble cast led by Leslie Cheung, Maggie Cheung and Carina Lau, the film marked the emergence of Wong Kar-wai’s distinctive cinematic style.

Its dreamlike atmosphere, evocative music and lingering images transform a story of romantic disappointment into a meditation on memory, identity and the passage of time. At once intimate and elusive, the film asks whether we can ever truly escape our past.
