Icelandic poet Andri Snær Magnason weaves his family's archives, folktales and the melting glaciers of his homeland into a cinematic letter to the future.
As Iceland's ice disappears faster than anyone anticipated, Andri sets out to build something that might outlast it: a record of this moment, held together by family photographs, home films, traditional songs and his own ever-present voice.
From Academy Award-nominated director Sara Dosa, Time and Water moves between the intimate and the geological, binding one family's history to the deep time of a landscape in crisis. There is an urgency to the climate story at its heart, including Andri's quietly devastating act of writing an obituary for a glacier, but the film keeps returning to something more personal: what it means to love a place, and what it means to watch it change beyond recognition. The ice cinematography alone is worth the big screen.
