Two movie marathons to rule them all!

An epic rumble is shaping up on Saturday 28 March at Showroom Cinema, Sheffield’s home for film fanatics. An overnight odyssey across the lands of Middle Earth, versus a Celluloid Screams celebration of one of horror’s most enduring villains. Let’s set the table…

In Screen 3, running 11 hours and 36 minutes, it’s The Lord of the Rings Extended Editions!

Peter Jackson’s trilogy remains one of the most ambitious productions in film history. All three films were shot simultaneously across a 14-month sprint and Jackson’s native New Zealand was transformed into the most fully-realised version of Tolkien's beloved tales.

A special shout out should go to Wētā Workshop. The effects team crafted “bigatures” of iconic locations like Minas Tirith, Rivendell and Argonath, and breathed life into every detail, handmaking 48,000 pieces of armour, 10,000 orc heads and 1,800 pairs of Hobbit feet across the three films.

Indulge in all the visual splendour across one all-night marathon. The extended editions add more than 3 hours of additional content and are cited by fans as the definitive way to enjoy the franchise. Loads of great character moments get their time to shine, from fun in the Shire, to Legolas and Gimli’s final tally.

And if that’s not enough… In Screen 4, running 10 hours and 45 minutes, Celluloid Screams presents: A Nightmare on Elm Street!

From the terrifying original right through to the final nightmare, Sheffield’s premier purveyor of on-screen scares runs an all-night celebration of one of horror’s most popular franchises. Whatever you do, don't fall asleep...

Wes Craven’s Elm Street series starts with a simple idea: if you die in your dreams, you die in real life. Its first entry is lean, unsettling and full of brilliantly frightful imagery, from Freddy’s bladed glove scraping along metal pipes to Tina’s gravity-defying death.

From there, the franchise builds into an ever-expanding playground for horror, with Freddy taking on a much more surreal (and sometimes silly) persona. By the time we hit Dream Warriors, the trippy visuals of Freddy’s dream world make for an absolute riot.
