Swoon-worthy Cinema at Showroom this February

February 14th. For those singletons checking the calendar, that’s one day after Friday 13th. But rest assured you’re safe at Showroom Cinema.

We’re celebrating love of all kinds this month, from best friends Romy & Michele to the doomed desire of Jean-Luc Goddard’s Breathless.

We’ve all been waiting for Margot Robbie’s return to screens, as Cathy in Emerald Fennel’s Wuthering Heights. ‘Two Aussies cast in the definitive Gothic Romance, set upon our here Yorkshire Moors?!’ It’s not the only controversy this blockbuster love story has courted, and you can be sure for some fiery post-film chat. Out Friday 13 February.

Out the same day, Jean Paul-Belmondo undeniably charms, as a philandering crim in Jean Luc Goddard’s Breathless. The French New Wave classic still oozes cool 60 years on. Treat your film-bro BF with a trip, so he can explain how it broke all formal film editing rules and redefined cinema.

A highlight as part of LGBTQ+ History Month, we’re delighted to preview Lesbian Space Princess on Saturday 14 February. This proudly queer, Sci-Fi love story has a wicked sense of humour and a wild sense of adventure. You’ll be charmed by Princess Saira, of Planet Clitopolis, who races to save her beloved Kiki from the ‘Straight White Maliens’.

Make it a date! Get two main courses, two cinema tickets and a bottle of wine - all for £58 as part of Take Two.

Galentine’s Day plans? Besties don’t come more iconic than Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow in Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion. Realising their 20s haven’t amounted to much, the duo invents fake careers to impress their former classmates. Thanks to Lydia from our Bar Team for selecting this as part of Showroom Spotlight on 13 and14 February.

Another alternate option comes courtesy of our Midnight Marauders programme, My Bloody Valentine at 23:30 on Friday 13 February. A fun 80s slasher, it’s perfectly paced and punctuated with inventive kills.

Later in the month, there's a stunning double bill from our Young Programmers. To Be Loved is To Be Celebrated on Saturday 21 February features Love & Basketball and Rye Lane. Explore relationships in black media, through these two unapologetically joyful breakout features by black, women directors.

Finally, Casablanca graces the programme as part of our Dementia-Friendly screenings, at 12 noon on Tuesday 24 February. Funny, smart, charming and heartbreaking. ‘Here’s looking at you kid’.

Book your Take Two date at Showroom’s website.
