May 2026 Bank Holiday and Half Term: What’s on at Showroom

By Isobel Harrop, Assistant Programmer: Young Audiences Programming

We all dream of time off, but often when it comes down to it, we feel stuck for something to do. But what could be a better way to spend the glorious Bank Holiday and Half Term hours than in the cinema? I might be biased, but I don’t think there is one!

At Showroom, we’ve got a stacked line up across the Bank Holiday Weekend and the rest of the half term week! We kick off with two movie marathons – our Ani-May Day anime marathon on Saturday 23 May from 12pm, followed by Baz Luhrmann’s Red Curtain Trilogy from 2:15pm on Monday 25 May. Pick-and-mix your schedule or buy a pass to either day to catch classics ranging from Satoshi Kon’s mind-bending animation Paprika to the fan-favourite Moulin Rouge!

Want more musicals? Don’t miss the return of Sheridan Smith in Funny Girl – The Musical, a smash hit Stage on Screen performance first released in 2018 returns to the big screen. Want more theatre? Check our Kokuho, the highest grossing Japanese film all time, where you will become immersed in traditional Kabuki theatre. Feeling arty? Exhibition on Screen takes us on a tour around the life and work of the legendary Frida Kahlo.

Families are also welcome at Showroom, and now for even better value than before – Family Time tickets are now only £4.99, and our newly introduced Toddler Kino screenings are just £3.99.  Families of four can see a new release for £27.50, whilst one adult and child pair can join us for only £15.

Family Time on Saturday 23 May and Toddler Kino on Monday 25 May bring us Bluey – Playdates with Friends big screen episode selection, whilst our new release programme continues with The Sheep Detectives – the cutest mystery there’s ever been. On Saturday 30 May, we launch our partnership with Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust on the ‘Our World’ programme. The programme encourages young people to ‘go wild’ throughout June, watching films about nature, animals, and taking care of our planet to inspire outdoor adventures of their own. The first screening is David Attenborough’s Ocean, which will be accompanied by crafts in the Showroom Cafe.

Other titles for grown-ups to look out for are Steven Soderberg’s low-key heist movie The Christophers and Manchester-made rom-com Finding Emily. And if you can, check out the highly unusual Hen.

So there’s no excuse to rot in bed, come and take in some incredible stories at Showroom.
