Showroom Cinema has long been Sheffield’s home for discovering the world through documentaries. From global perspectives, through three decades of Sheffield DocFest and twenty years of the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival, to local stories such as 2025’s Miner’s Strike Anniversary Season and Slambarz’ premiere of their documentary Slam City, our programme continues to inform, inspire and engage. From April, Showroom is introducing two new monthly strands to expand your horizons.
Perspectives brings fresh viewpoints and sparks conversation about the world we live in. Taking place on the first Tuesday of each month, the strand launches on Tuesday 7 April with a screening of The Line We Crossed. This powerful British story of dissent, drawn from the frontlines of climate resistance, will be followed by a Q&A with director Liz Smith.
On the third Wednesday of the month, join us for a regular Adventure film screening. Expect breath-taking landscapes and inspiring stories. Our first screening, Don’t Be Prey, takes place on Wednesday 22 April, and follow one man’s extraordinarily challenging and dangerous journey crossing the Ocean’s Seven channel. Beyond these regular slots, April is packed with exciting documentary screenings and events. Out now, Underland explores the hidden worlds beneath our feet. Based on the bestselling book by Robert Macfarlane, this cinematic documentary explores landscapes rarely glimpsed by human eyes, with narration by Oscar-nominee Sandra Hüller. Director Robert Petit will join us for a Q&A on Saturday 11 April. To mark Earth Day (22 April), we sail 3000 miles across the North Pacific Ocean through to densest accumulation of ocean plastic on the planet in X Trillion, presented in partnership with Sheffield Action on Plastic. The screening will be followed by a recorded Q+A with director Eleanor Church.
On Friday 24 April, Our Land asks who has the right to roam in the English countryside? Director Orban Wallace and Jess Peach of Right to Roam join after for an in person Q+A.
Kendal Mountain Tour 2026 returns to Showroom Cinema on Thursday 30 April, featuring a handpicked selection of award-winning adventure films from the Kendal Mountain Festival. Finally, are you ready for the next DocFest? For several years, Showroom Cinema and DocFest have collaborated on DocNights. Taking place on the last Monday of each month, the series gives audiences the chance to revisit standout festival titles. DocFest 2026 are now accepting applications for volunteers. Watch this space for announcements about this year’s programme.
