On Monday 31 August at 10.45am, our Toddler Kino strand presents Shorts for Wee Ones 2026, seven shorts for our youngest and a much-loved Discovery Film Festival fixture. This year's line-up spans styles and stories from Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada, Uruguay and beyond.
Expect curious capybaras, chef mushrooms, woodland animals, a very hungry crocodile, a voiceless cockerel, and a little girl who communicates best through her drawings. The films celebrate friendship and accepting difference. All are dialogue-free bar one in English making for a colourful first taste of cinema for ages 3+. Drop in to the Café Bar before and after to make stop-motion animations with pen, paper along with your phone to try the free 'Animade Frames' app.
Aimed at 1–4s, Toddler Kino is a gentle introduction to the big screen. A slightly older film buff in tow? Try Family Time.
This week's screening is part of our 80s bank holiday marathon: the beloved fantasy-adventure The Princess Bride on Saturday 29 August at 11am.
Princess Buttercup and farmhand Westley are lovebirds. When Dread Pirate Roberts interrupts their happily ever after, they must overcome six-fingered swordsmen, scheming princes and rodents of unusual size.
Family Time runs every Saturday at 11am, showing films for ages 5+ in a laid-back setting, with dimmed lighting and Hard of Hearing subtitles where possible.
Children at family screenings can grab a drink and popcorn combo for £4.50, and adults save 10% off café bar food with their ticket.
For more vintage-family fare, don't miss Kiki's Delivery Service on general release from Friday 28 August. Studio Ghibli's coming-of-age tale about young witch Kiki and her sarcastic black cat Jiji is an animated feast, subtitled or dubbed (with Kirsten Dunst as Kiki), daily until Thursday 3 September.
Finally, Bitter Christmas screens as part of Baby Kino on Monday 31 August at 12.15pm. The latest from Pedro Almodóvar follows Raúl, a cult filmmaker in creative crisis. When tragedy strikes a close collaborator, he pours it into his next script, conjuring Elsa, a filmmaker whose journey mirrors his own in a game where autofiction reveals as much as it destroys.
Baby Kino, for parents and new babies, runs every Monday at 12.15pm, with pram parking and a free hot drink.
