Marilyn Monroe at 100: Beyond the Icon
Few icons stand frozen in time quite like Marilyn Monroe. A woman whose short life has her immortalised in moving pictures and an instantly recognisable image. It is easy to reduce her to a single frame
There's plenty coming up for families at Showroom Workstation this month, from ocean adventures to caterpillars, K-Pop and more.
Showroom's Family Time screens a feature for ages 5+ every Saturday at 11am, with tickets now just £4.99. These relaxed screenings offer a varied programme of family favourites, with low-level lighting and, where possible, Hard of Hearing subtitles to make sure everyone is comfortable. On Saturday 30 May, Family Time presents Ocean with David Attenborough, a breath-taking journey into the world's most vital ecosystem. The celebrated broadcaster reveals how his lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery, with spectacular sequences taking in coral reefs, kelp forests and the open ocean, exploring why a healthy ocean keeps our entire planet stable and flourishing. After the film, join us for ocean-themed crafts in the Showroom Café, in partnership with Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust.
This screening also marks the launch of our 'Our World' programme with the Wildlife Trust, running throughout June and encouraging young people to go wild, watching films about nature and animals to inspire adventures of their own.
For younger children, there's Toddler Kino. Designed for ages 1–4, these Monday morning screenings offer a gentle first taste of cinema, with films carefully chosen to run between 30–60 minutes to suit little ones' attention spans. Tickets are just £3.99, with a pram park available. On Monday 1 June, Toddler Kino presents The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Stories, Eric Carle's beloved illustrated characters brought to life in a delightful collection of animated tales.
Also on Monday 1 June, Baby Kino screens Power Ballad. From writer-director John Carney (Once, Sing Street), this feel-good story stars Paul Rudd as a past-his-prime wedding singer whose path crosses with a fading pop star, with funny, heartfelt results. The perfect excuse for new parents to catch a film.
And coming soon, back by popular demand: K-Pop Demon Hunters [Sing-along]. Seal the Honmoon and sing along with HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys in this full-length sing-along version of the Netflix hit. Screenings on Tue 16 Jun at 12.15pm, Wed 17 Jun at 4pm, and Thu 18 Jun at 10am.
Don't forget our family ticket offer: families of four can see a new release for £27.50, or an adult and child for just £15. Children attending Family Time and Toddler Kino can also enjoy a small drink and popcorn combo for £4.50.
