The four-year wait is finally over. Tommy Shelby’s last outing arrives this Friday, exclusively in cinemas.
The Peaky Blinders, under the leadership of their cunning crime boss Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy), rose from the mean streets of BBC Two to international streaming success. It’s been some time since we heard from the gang in Birmingham.
With Netflix bringing the show to the big screen, let’s catch you up on where we left off.
Despite building his criminal empire to elevate his family, each success left Tommy more isolated, corroding the Shelby dynasty. In an explosive series finale, which saw fraternal treachery and psychological plots foiled, Tommy stepped away. Riding off on a white horse, he left his illegitimate son - Duke - in the care of brother Arthur and sister Ada, to lead the gang on their next chapter.
That doesn’t seem to have worked. Now in the throes of the Second World War, Tommy is back in Birmingham, and Duke (Barry Keoghan) is seemingly in for a reckoning.
Cillian Murphy is stepping back into one of his most iconic roles, following his Oscar win for Oppenheimer. Keoghan (Saltburn, The Banshees of Inisherin) joins the cast, alongside Rebecca Ferguson (Dune, Mission Impossible), Stephen Graham (Adolescence) and Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs). Expect familiar faces in Paul Anderson and Sophie Rundle as Arthur and Ada.
For all those who have eagerly awaited this cinematic conclusion since the end of series six, The Immortal Man shan’t disappoint. Nick Cave has recorded a new version of the show’s theme song ‘Red Right Hand’ and is joined on the soundtrack by Irish rockers Fontaines D.C. and Amy Taylor of Amyl & The Sniffers.
