An Audience with Silent Cinema Maestro Neil Brand

n/a

Neil Brand truly ticks all the boxes; a dazzling pianist, brilliant storyteller, and quite literally a "one man band", combining silent movies with his original music to create the complete theatrical experience of a night out.

For forty years, Neil has brought the best of silent film to modern audiences, guiding them through the art and craft of early cinema with warmth, humour, and jaw-dropping musical skill. Drawing on his expertise as presenter of BBC TV’s Sound of Cinema: The Music That Made the Movies and his career accompanying and scoring silent films, Neil reveals how music shapes our emotional response to film, with real-time demonstrations at the piano.

With his winning personality and jaw-dropping abilities as a pianist he takes his audience through the art and craft of silent cinema and music, paying special attention to the 1926 western The Winning of Barbara Worth starring Gary Cooper which he scored to great acclaim two years ago, and is receiving its UK premiere with the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra on March 21st.

A unique, funny, and deeply engaging show, full of nostalgia, laughter, and discovery — guaranteed to leave you in awe of the great filmmakers of the silent era and the musicians who gave them their voice.

“Neil, always so eloquent and, damn it, charming, had my entire family rapt…”
