In a loose reworking of both The Phantom of the Opera and the legend of Faust, Brian De Palma’s Phantom of the Paradise stars William Finley as its version of the Phantom, a composer who slowly loses both his music and his soul to Swan (Paul Williams), a shady nightclub owner. The Phantom comes to haunt the club – the “Paradise” of the title – as he falls deeply in love with singer Phoenix (Jessica Harper) and plots his revenge on Swan…
