Good for Them! is a season of films curated by this year's Young Programmers here at Showroom, in celebration of all things Pride.

Hand-picked with intention, we’re looking toward queer joy, yes, but also the absence of sorrow in queer spaces. These films promise to take you on a journey that portrays the complexities and honesties of a queer existence. We want you to walk away from these films with a sense that for once, the gays have the upper hand.

These films feature revenge, relief, and laughter, and show that queer joy can be had, held, and shared, warranting them representative of the vast positivity that radiates from being queer in a queer space.

In a community as diverse as this one, we wanted to reflect that on the big screen as much as possible and have our audiences feel themselves and the things they value represented as worthy of queer joy. As such, we’ll be hanging out with the descendants of the beloved cast of Paris is Burning, the young members of the New York City ball scene with documentary Kiki (2016), The grungy crime-fighting lesbians of 90s noir flick Bound (1996), the unlikely found family in sentimental animated comedy Tokyo Godfathers (2003), and finishing up with road-tripping drag queens intent on acceptance in To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (1995).

Screened alongside theme-specific special events and freebies, as well as hand-picked shorts, we’re covering a range of bases, from crime-fighting lesbians, teens, queens, and in-betweens. We hope you too find joy, have a laugh, and maybe turn to someone in a neighbouring seat when the lights come up and say, well, Good for Them!
