Whit Stillman: Love & Friendship

12A

Lady Susan Vernon takes up temporary residence at her in-laws' estate and, while there, is determined to be a matchmaker for her daughter Frederica--and herself too, naturally.

Based on a short story written by Jane Austen when she was just 14 years old, Love & Friendship brings us full circle back to Whit Stillman’s debut film, Metropolitan, which paid homage to the airs and graces of Austen through the lens of 1990’s New York society. Here, Stillman shows her influence on her work more directly, through a wonderful period adaptation of one of her lesser-known works.

To celebrate Whit Stillman’s visit to Sheffield this summer (29 July), we are delighted to be screening all five of his funny and stylish feature films in 5 by Whit Stillman.
