Inspired by Showroom’s KaiJuly Raids Again! season, this month at Family Time we are celebrating all things big and scary. This week we visit the quintessential cinematic Giant: The Iron Giant.
In 1950’s America, a young boy named Hogarth befriends a giant robot from outer space that crash lands in his seaside hometown. Whilst the Iron Giant is kind and the pair form a deep and growing bond, a paranoid government agent wishes to destroy the misunderstood Giant.
Adapted from the Ted Hughes novel The Iron Man by The Incredibles director Brad Bird, The Iron Giant bombed at the box office upon release, despite rave reviews from critics.
Over time, the film has developed a cult status and is often considered one of the greatest animated films ever made, as it wraps an exciting action-packed story around a touching core message about love and loss.
The Iron Giant is rated PG, as it contains mild fantasy action violence and infrequent mild bad language. For fans of ET, Big Hero 6, and Lilo and Stitch.
Family Time screenings are relaxed and feature subtitles and low-level lighting for accessibility and comfort for all. All tickets are £6. Please find more information about Family Time here.
