BHM: Physical Health - You Matter To Me (Short Films + Panel)

18

In partnership with Clarity+, SACMHA, Cultural Appropriate Resources, The Sheffield Memory Hub and the Sickle Cell Society, Showroom Community presents You Matter to Me, a powerful short film programme exploring health conditions that disproportionately affect the Black community.

Following the screening, guests are invited to take part in an interactive Dementia Activity led by Carl Case, designed to deepen understanding through lived experience. The evening will continue with an open audience discussion featuring partner representatives, reflecting on the progress, challenges, and future of support for those living with these conditions.

Audience is encouraged to connect with our partners through sign-ups, donations, and health screenings, building stronger networks of care within Sheffield’s community.

SACHMA is an African Caribbean-led charitable organisation established in 1988 in response to the health and social care needs of people of African and Caribbean descent.

SACMHA Provides culturally responsive support to people from those communities in need of assistance because of their age, youth, disability, caring responsibilities, financial hardship or social disadvantage. SACMHA is responsive to the changing social care needs of the people and communities we serve.

Cultural Appropriate Resources focuses on enhancing cultural competency in health and social care services. Providing tailored toolkits for dementia care that are specific to various cultural heritages, helping care partners engage meaningfully with family members and service users. Their resources aim to improve the quality of care by addressing the unique cultural backgrounds of individuals.

The Sheffield Memory Hub is a community-led initiative based in Sheffield, UK, focused on delivering culturally appropriate dementia care, early diagnosis support, and person-centred activities, especially for individuals of African and African Caribbean heritage. It was developed to address health disparities and provide meaningful, responsive support to communities historically underserved in this area.

The Sickle Cell Society is the only national charity in the UK that supports and represents people affected by a sickle cell disorder to improve their overall quality of life. First set up as a registered charity in 1979, the Sickle Cell Society has been working alongside health care professionals, parents, and people living with sickle cell to raise awareness of the disorder. The Society’s aim is to support those living with sickle cell, empowering them to achieve their full potential. Learn more.
