Showroom Spotlight - Tetsuo: The Iron Man

18

A "metal fetishist" (Shin'ya Tsukamoto), driven mad by the maggots wriggling in the wound he's made to embed metal into his flesh, runs out into the night and is accidentally run down by a Japanese businessman (Tomorowo Taguchi) and his girlfriend (Kei Fujiwara). The pair dispose of the corpse in hopes of quietly moving on with their lives. However, the businessman soon finds that he is now plagued by a vicious curse that transforms his flesh into iron.

This screening has been chosen and will be introduced by Showroom projectionist Jack Starr.

Jack said "Tetsuo is one of my favourite films – it’s a one-of-a-kind industrial cyberpunk body-horror nightmare that assaults your eyes and ears with visceral, non-stop terror. It’s like David Lynch or David Cronenberg turned up to 11. It’s also really quite funny. It’s a Japanese midnight-cult-classic, and it needs to be seen on the big screen."
